Resources and Book list

Here is a list of books and other resources that we have followed. We hope it turns out to be helpful for candidates deciding to take up this exam in future.  :)

We both have taken classes at Axiom, Rajendra Place and were taught by Dr Mahesh Lalwani. Attending classes made it possible for us to understand the concepts clearly. We also referred to the class notes religiously. As the second step, we could easily move towards the following books.
  • Microeconomics- Intermediate Microeconomics by Hal Varian, Microeconomic Theory by Michael E Wetzstein
  • Macroeconomics- Dornbusch and Fischer, Olivier Blanchard
  • Mathematical Economics- Alpha C. Chiang
  • Econometrics- Introduction to Econometrics by Wallace E. Oates, Theory of Econometrics by A. Koutsiyannis, Basic Econometrics by Damodar Gujarati
  • Economic Development and Growth- Growth and Development by A P Thirlwall, Economic Development by Todaro and Smith
  • International Economics- International Economics by Dominick Salvatore, International Economics by Krugman
  • Monetary Economics- Monetary Economics by Suraj B Gupta
  • Public Finance- Public Finance in Theory and Practice Musgrave and Musgrave
  • Environmental Economics- Environmental Economics by Kolstad
  • State market and planning- Indian Economy by Uma Kapila (some chapters)

Why this blog

During the course of my preparation for Indian Economic Service examination, I felt that there remains a significant gap between what candidates pursue and what is demanded by the examination.  One of the reasons behind this mismatch is the scarcity of proper guidance and resources.    This is my attempt towards abridging that gap by helping candidates across the country in streamlining their preparation in a better way. I  hope to share with you the insights I have learnt throughout our journey, via this platform. For any queries, reach out to me at iesprepplan@gmail.com.
